I love a good guilt-free dessert option!! Granted, these homemade Twix bars are not low-calorie, they are packed with nourishing complex carbs and wholesome fats, unlike its highly processed and high-sugar supermarket rival.

Compared to regular store-bought Twix, which includes a whopping 23 grams of added sugar, these homemade Twix bars have ZERO added sugar. The sweetness comes from the dates and maple syrup so I feel totally comfortable giving these to my two toddlers when we want to have a treat.

When I first began my journey to healing my ADHD naturally, processed sugar was one of the first things I cut out — and it was the first thing that made a real difference in my mood and my ability to stay focused. Granted, when I'm out with friends or at a restaurant, I do still enjoy processed sugar, canola oil, and other additives — it's hard to avoid! But when I'm cooking for myself or my kids, I never use it. The shocking thing I've found is that desserts and other recipes are just as delicious without it — if not more so! I've found that cooking, baking, and creating fun recipes are so much more enjoyable with natural sweeteners like dates, honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar (to name a few).

And no more extreme sugar hangover. Don't get me wrong, I'm not deluding myself into thinking that swapping processed sugar for natural sugar makes foods better for you, but there's no denying the impact that highly processed sugar has on your body over long periods of time. Since swapping processed sugar (like cane sugar, and high fructose corn syrup) my sugar cravings in general, have gone way down — that's not a coincidence.

I dare you to give these homemade Twix bars a try and see if they'll last a whole week. Between my husband, kids, and me, I have yet to make a batch that lasts longer than 4 days haha!! I literally have to hide them in the back of the freezer! (Shh, don't tell my husband!)

Easy Homemade Twix Bars

These homemade Twix bars are so easy to throw together and require NO cooking or baking. They really hit the spot when it comes to sugar cravings — it’s hard to believe these are vegan, gluten-free, and use only natural sugar from dates!

  • Food processor
  • Magic Bullet
  • 9×5 loaf pan
  • Parchment paper

Cookie base

  • 3/4 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup cashews (no need to soak!)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil

Vegan caramel layer

  • 6 medjool dates soaked in boiling water
  • 3 tbsp almond butter
  • 1.5 tbsp water

Chocolate topping

  • 1/4 cup vegan chocolate (I'm obsessed with Hu gems!)
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (optional, it just makes the chocolate a little more liquid)
  1. Line a 9×5 inch loaf ban with parchment paper

  2. Add some boiled water to a mug and soak the dates in it.

  3. While dates are soaking, make the cookie base by adding almond flour, cashews, maple syrup, and coconut oil to a food processor or small blender (like a Magic Bullet). Process until everything is completely blended and transfer to the lined baking dish.

  4. Add the dates, almond butter, and water to the food processor and blend until everything is blended and it forms a paste. Spread over the cookie base then pop the dish in the freezer for 1+ hours

  5. To make the chocolate topping, melt chocolate and coconut oil either in the microwave (30-second intervals) or using a double boiler.

  6. Remove bars from baking dish and cut into 8 even sections, then drizzle the chocolate on top. Return to freezer until chocolate hardens and enjoy!! Store in the freezer for up to 3 months (although I doubt they will last that long!!)

I love to store these in the freezer, it’s like a Twix bar and “ice cream” treat in one, but you can also store in the fridge.
